A Detail Study on Heat Dissipation Performance of the Laser-Driven Illumination Based on the Vapor Chamber

Heat accumulation on the phosphor converter is the biggest bottleneck for the development of laser lighting. To resolve this problem, a structure that combines the phosphor converter (PC) and vapor chamber (VC) was proposed and named PCVC in this work. The heat generated by the laser facula can be dissipated efficiently by the VC. A finite element analysis model (FEA) was simulated to study the heat dissipation performance. The results show that the facula temperature decreases by 24.05% compared to the control group. In addition, the optical performance was investigated by the experiment. The results show that the correlated color temperature (CCT) shift is much lower than the control group, which decreases by 79.86%. However, the results also show that heat dissipation is difficult for the sample whose phosphor converter thickness exceeds 3 mm, despite the use of VC. The carbonization process was also investigated. The results show that the carbonization and quenching problem result in less blue light being converted to yellow light, which leads to higher CCT and lower luminous flux.
