Arduino-based Fingerprint Scan for Attendance-taking System

This research explores the development of an Arduino-based Fingerprint Scan for Attendance-taking System aimed at addressing the shortcomings of traditional attendance methods in educational settings. Attendance management is crucial for assessing organizational effectiveness and planning future efforts. Traditional methods such as manual attendance sheets and Radio-frequency identification (RFID) swipe cards are prone to errors and manipulation, affecting data accuracy and security. The proposed system utilizes biometric technology to automate attendance tracking, utilizing the AS608 Fingerprint Sensor Module and DS3231 Real Time Clock (RTC) Module for reliable performance. The system operates independently of internet connectivity, making it suitable for deployment in remote educational institutions where internet access is limited or nonexistent. Methodologically, the research involved system design, prototype development, and testing phases. The system allows students to register their fingerprints for enrollment and subsequently records their attendance upon verification. It features a user-friendly interface with options for data transfer and system reset, enhancing operational flexibility. Results demonstrate that the prototype effectively captures and stores fingerprint data, ensuring secure and accurate attendance records. Future improvements could focus on enhancing sensor robustness in diverse environmental conditions and exploring alternative biometric modalities for improved reliability.
