Current Re-Use RF Receiver Front-End Topology Combining LNA, Mixer, VCO and Frequency Divider

In this research, an LMVD topology (consisting of LNA, Mixer, VCO and Frequency Divider) is proposed. The divider is stacked with an LMV circuit. Consequently, a DC current passes through all the blocks, a method known as current re-use, which leads to reduced power consumption. The generation of orthogonal signals in the VCO is achieved through a transformer. The proposed circuit is designed and simulated in a 65nm technology with an input frequency of 1.8 GHz and 1 MHz IF. The results for a 1.2V supply indicate a power consumption of 1.8 mW, from a 1.2 V supply, Noise Figure of 5.92 dB, and phase noise at the offset of 1 MHz reaching −118.36 dBc/Hz.
