A Low Cost Phase Estimation Device for PMU Phase Validation

The validation of a phase estimation, for example in a phasor measurement unit often requires expensive hardware. This paper introduces a device that allows to estimate the phase of a generated sinusoidal steady state signal. The estimation is based only voltage and frequency measurements. The different accuracy aspects of the proposed approach are discussed and then compared to measurements taken with the proposed device. It is shown that the results acquired during testing are within the expected error margin.
