A Second-Order ∆Σ ADC with FIR DAC for DNA Nanopore Readout Interface

Modern DNA sequencing machine sizes have experienced significant size reductions recently, approaching the dimensions of commodity memory sticks. Much of this miniaturization is driven by increased reliance on specialized CMOS circuitry for DNA signal processing. The nascent status of this technology presents many opportunities for improvement in this area, among these being improved circuits for the digitization of DNA signals transduced by nanopore sensors. To this end we present a delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter in 180-nm CMOS indented to server as the data conversion block in array nanopore readout ICs. The proposed ADC consumes only 9µW while achieving 60dB SNR for 40kHz bandwidth.
