Collective pitch sliding mode control of floating offshore wind turbine

This paper proposes a collective pitch control scheme based on the combination of equivalent sliding mode control and sliding mode exponential reaching law for floating offshore wind turbines (FOWT). The random motion of the floating support platform due to random disturbances such as wave and wind speed is known to cause fatigue structural load and power fluctuation problems. Using the FAST (i.e., fatigue, aerodynamics, structures, and turbulence) and MATLAB, simulations of the proposed sliding mode control scheme are performed and compared with a typical PI control. The results show that the sliding mode control scheme better stabilizes the generator power and suppresses the platform movement and load.
