A Techno-Economic Study of DC Microgrids for Electric School Bus Charging Depots

Solar canopy microgrids offer many benefits for electric school bus fleet charging depots. This work models and compares the 25-year life-cycle cost of several DC and AC microgrid topologies. Based on the results, grid-tied AC topologies cost the least today, but off-grid DC topologies may be the most economical in the future if the costs of electricity and interconnection agreements increase with the demand for electric vehicles.
