Reliability Assessment of DC Space Microgrids Using a Markov Modeling Approach

This paper proposes an approach to assess the reliability of a space microgrid architecture for long-term space exploration and human presence. It considers internal and external microgrid faults and disturbances, along with their effects on the functionality of a space habitat. The paper presents a quantitative reliability assessment model for a space microgrid using a Markov model. Simulation results for various disturbance scenarios in a space habitat model are used to study the different failure modes of the power system components. Simulations are also used to evaluate various fault repair schedules and assess the system's reliability during various phases of operation.
