Conserving Energy of Office Lighting by Smart Features in Singapore Buildings

People mainly stay indoor during office hours, so one of challenging problems in built environment is how do building and facilities management conserve energy without compensating visual comfort of occupants and tenants. In this study, smart lighting features are proposed by leveraging IoT sensors to intelligently operate lighting system in offices. By comparing with traditional lighting operation scheme, here are the conclusive remarks drawn as follows: (1) By statistics, smart feature lighting can effectively reduce energy consumption from present lighting scheme. (2) Smart lighting feature B outperforms feature A averagely by 25% with a smarter strategy with statistics-inspired cut-off line applied in feature B. (3) Statistically, the averages of two smart lighting features are 26.29% and 51.29% per zone energy savings, respectively for feature A and B. These are equivalent to S$269.81 and S$526.37 per zone on annually financial saving, which are also equivalent to 171.48kg and 334.55kg per zone of annual GHG emission saving, respectively for feature A and B.
