A Performance Study of Block Proposing Mechanism in Ethereum 2.0

Ethereum 2.0 (ETH2) marks a significant evolution from Ethereum 1.0 (ETHl), playing a central role in the Web3.0 infrastructure. At its core, the consensus protocol Gasper greatly affects system performance. Given that Gasper's parameters are empirically determined, there is a clear necessity for parameter tuning. This paper presents a simulation-based study that models the performance of the block proposing mechanism within Gasper. Our simulation results illustrate the impact of design parameters (e.g., block proposing interval) on throughput and non-forking probability. They may enable us to find optimal parameter configure to balance the two-performance metrics. These findings help enhance the system performance of ETH2.
