Welding Technology Students’ Perception on the Use of Google Classroom Application at Vocational College

Google classroom (GC) is one of the online applications that can be used to replace face-to-face learning environment. GC offers many benefits to users, such as userfriendliness, free of charge, and accessible at everywhere and in every time. Nonetheless, it also comprises disadvantages as its utilization requires stable internet connection and teacher's competency in ICT and online pedagogy. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the students’ perceptions on the use of GC in terms of its effectiveness, student personality formation and students’ satisfaction from the perspective of Vocational College students. A total of 103 Diploma Students in Welding Technology at a Vocational College were invited to participate in this study. Questionnaire which contained 22 items was used in this study. The findings indicate that the students were highly satisfied with the use of GC in learning. Conversely, they perceived that GC was only moderately effective for learning and to nurture students’ personality. These findings suggest that teachers should improve their ICT skill and online pedagogical skills in order to create an effective learning environment for students. Additionally, meaningful learning activities that embed positive values should be thoroughly designed and implemented to nurture students’ personalities.
