Optimization of Electricity Consumption via Peak Time Reallocation: MATLAB Simulation and Arduino based Lab Implementation

This paper investigates strategies for optimizing electricity usage by reallocating peak demand periods. Various techniques such as dynamic pricing, Demand-Side Management (DSM) and Energy Storage Systems (ESS). The proposed load shifting algorithm based on water filling algorithm is presented along with standard equations, detailed flowchart and tabular data. Implementation of the algorithm via MATLAB simulation for varying scenarios is demonstrated by redistributing the peak loads to off-peak hours by optimal percentages and area segregation. Moreover, a simple version of the algorithm (with on/off) control for three different loads: LED, fan and Elec-tromagnetic latch is demonstrated in laboratory using Arduino microcontroller.
