Modeling and Active Disturbance Rejection Control of Integrated Energy System with Phase Change Materials Storage

Integrated energy systems are often characterized by complicated thermodynamic properties, including high uncertainty, nonlinearity, and strong coupling. However, it is difficult to establish accurate mathematical models for these systems, thus model-based control methods may fail to achieve satisfactory control results. In this paper, the dynamic models of the integrated energy system with phase change materials (PCM) storage are established. Modeling of the key components, such as gas turbine, absorption chiller and phase change materials storage, are described. Then, the active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) is employed to control the power and temperature loops within the integrated energy system aiming at dealing with the model uncertainty, nonlinearity and couplings. Simultaneously, a multi-objective optimization algorithm is utilized to optimize the parameters of the ADRC controllers. Finally, the integrated energy system with PCM storage is simulated under the typical day scene of a Hong Kong hotel load demand. The PID controllers are also applied for comparison. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed control and optimization method can ensure the integrated energy system’s stable operation, and it performs better than PID in load tracking and disturbance rejection.
