Research on the Adaptive Energy Management Strategy for Commercial Vehicles with P2+P4 Configuration

Heavy-duty commercial vehicles serve as the primary means of long-haul transportation and efficient urban logistics. However, their high tonnage and power result in high fuel consumption and emissions. With the imperative shift toward vehicle electrification in today’s context, the research on new energy configurations for heavy-duty commercial vehicles and their corresponding energy management strategies for various scenarios is of paramount importance. In this paper, a new energy commercial vehicle configuration, namely P2+P4 configuration, is proposed for a 49-ton heavy-duty tractor. Correspondingly, a rule-based energy management strategy is developed, and the strategy is further optimized based on the results of dynamic programming algorithms to enable mode switching and power allocation according to different operating conditions. Simulation results demonstrate that under the CHTC_TT operating condition, the traditional rule-based control strategy can improve fuel economy by 17.88%, while the adaptive control strategy can enhance fuel economy by 21.46%.
