A Practical Discrimination Approach for Measurements Falling into the Maneuvering Gate

In the field of target tracking, designing a reasonable tracking gate is not only a crucial step in limiting the number of infeasible association decisions, but also a prerequisite for maintaining the continuous update of tracks. When the target maneuvering pattern is unknown, conventional tracking gates struggle to cover target-originated measurements by increasing the size of validation gate, thus introducing lots of false returns, and decreasing tracking performance. Building upon the existing maneuvering gate, this paper deduces the geometric relationship between measurements and the inner and outer boundaries of the maneuvering gate, providing an operational method to discern whether a measurement falls within the maneuvering tracking gate. The simulation results demonstrate that, compared to the traditional Maximum Likelihood gate, applying the proposed maneuvering gate significantly reduces the target loss rate, maintains track integrity, and exhibits superior tracking performance in cluttered environments.
