Optimal Eco-driving Control of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles through Multiple Signalized Intersections

The advancement of intelligent and connected vehicles (ICVs) and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) holds significant promise for enhancing vehicle eco-driving control at intersections on urban roads. Existing research predominantly concentrates on eco-driving control between two intersections, neglecting the exploration of multiple intersections. This paper introduces an optimal eco-driving control framework for ICVs at multiple intersections. Subsequently, the nonlinear optimal control problem is transformed into a nonlinear programming problem using the direct multiple shooting method, enabling efficient problem resolution. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through comparative simulation experiments. The proposed method demonstrates a 5.6% enhancement in vehicle fuel economy compared to human-driven vehicles, achieving optimal eco-driving control for ICVs.
