Hysteresis modeling and compound control strategy of a conical bridge-type piezoelectric actuator

Piezoelectric actuators are commonly used in the field of active vibration control, which requires the piezoelectric actuators to have sufficient control accuracy. To this end, hysteresis modeling and suppression are investigated for a conical bridge-type piezoelectric actuator. The displacement measurement system is established to obtain the displacement output response of the actuator, after that, the Bouc-Wen hysteresis dynamics model of the piezoelectric actuator is established. To characterize the rate-dependent hysteresis behavior of the actuator, the particle swarm optimization algorithm is adopted for a two-step estimation of the model parameters. Based on the established hysteresis model, a compound control algorithm combining feedforward compensator and feedback proportional-integral-derivative controller is proposed to reduce the piezoelectric actuator’s positioning error. Experimental results indicate that the proposed control strategy can reduce the actuator output nonlinearity to less than 1% and significantly improve the tracking accuracy of the actuator’s output displacement.
