Pedagogical Innovation in Higher Education Using an Active Learning Methodology to Increase the Effectiveness of Geometry Learning for Engineering Students

Pedagogical innovation in higher education using an active learning methodology to increase the effectiveness of geometry learning for engineering students. Active methodologies have been used in the most varied disciplines with the aim of teaching the syllabus to students in an active way. Engineering students like to learn by doing, having an aptitude for technology. Applying active methodologies to teach mathematics to engineers is an added value. The study presented applies active methodologies to increase the effectiveness of geometry learning for engineering students. An innovative pedagogical activity was developed with the support of technologies: GeoGebra and augmented reality. 38 students carried out this activity in the classroom under the guidance and monitoring of the teacher. Before the activity, they answered a questionnaire and another after the activity. From the information collected in the two questionnaires and the participants observation by the teacher in the classroom, analyses and reflections were carried out. As a result, it was found that the methodology presented in this study shows that it is possible to promote the development of skills with active learning, in innovative activities, awakening students' curiosity and allowing them to study independently, which is one of the characteristics of the 21st century students.
