Design of Energy Efficient Power Converter Topologies for Electric Vehicles and Their Charging

The demand for more effective charging infrastructure systems that can charge cars quicker than ever before is rising in tandem with the number of electric vehicles (EVs) on the road. There has to be a method for rapid DC charging since new electric vehicles have longer ranges and bigger batteries than old ones. Power modules are the fundamental component of these rapid DC charging stations, and this application report examines topological considerations for their design. Future electrification of transportation will be greener and more energy efficient, according to the rising number of electric cars utilized by customers. Electric vehicles' (EVs) financial performance is highly dependent on the availability of efficient charging stations. The present development and future intentions of the DC fast-charging applications in the consideration that several AC/DC converter topologies are discussed. The efficacy and dependability of these converters are assessed and compared based on their output power, total harmonic distortion, power factor, number of components, and assessment. Also included in this article is an analysis of the pros and cons of various topologies for AC/DC converters used in DC fast-charging stations. The study on analysing and comparing the Vienna rectifier with other topologies was the conclusion that the Vienna rectifier was more suitable for development in high-power DC fast-charging systems due to its low current waves, lower yield voltage swells, high effectiveness, high power thickness, and high dependability over kW converters than more than 20 kW. On a number of Vienna rectifier geographies, applied to even out 3 DC quick charging stations, this article casts some light. These topologies result in low CO2 emissions of the charging stations for the EVs and subsequently, enables achievement of the sustainable development goals on climate change.
