Efficient Placement of Distributed Generation for Loss Minimization via PSO Optimization

This paper presents a novel approach to enhance power system efficiency through the integration of distributed generation (DG) in the Bus 33 and 69 bus systems, employing Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The primary objective is to achieve maximum efficiency and loss reduction by determining the optimal size of DG units strategically placed at buses DG-1, DG-2, DG-3, and DG-4. The methodology leverages the PSO algorithm iteratively to identify the optimal configurations, minimizing power losses and maximizing system efficiency. The study employs both forward and backward sweep methodologies to comprehensively analyze the impact of DG integration on the power system. Results demonstrate that the proposed PSO-driven approach significantly enhances power system efficiency. Optimal sizing of DG units, particularly at bus 33 and 69, leads to a substantial reduction in power losses, contributing to overall system efficiency improvements. The forward and backward sweep methodologies validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, providing a comprehensive understanding of the system's behavior.
