Enhancing Home Energy Use with Solar Panels and Battery Technology

In the contemporary world, the necessity for diverse energy storage devices is undeniable. Energy storage holds the potential to bring advantages across various sectors, including microgrids, commercial and industrial operations, and even extensive public utilities. This research centers on exploring the implications of solar panels, battery-based storage, load shedding, and insolation in the context of home self-consumption. The aim is to enhance self-consumption, leading to a decreased reliance on the grid and subsequently reducing the exported electricity from the system. The study specifically investigates how battery-powered PV self-consumption devices can effectively balance the energy imported and exported to and from the grid in residential settings. The anticipated outcome is a more receptive attitude from utilities toward integrating distributed renewable energy into the electric grid, with consumers gaining better insights into the advantages of energy storage using battery technology. The implementation of this research is carried out using MATLAB software. Results are presented through power graphs corresponding to grid supply, grid with solar, and grid with both solar and battery systems. Additionally, a State of Charge (SOC) graph is generated to illustrate battery capacity, and an optimization graph is produced to identify the optimal size for both solar and battery systems.
