Comparative Study on Unstructured Fractional Controller with Approximated Structured FOID Controller for Industrial Processes

This study proposed an approximated structured fractional order integral-derivative (FOID) controller to address the limitations of the unstructured fractional controller. Although unstructured fractional controllers are capable of offering required standards in terms of performance and robustness, it suffered from an improper structure that made it impractical for real-time processes. To assess the efficacy of the suggested control strategy, comparative studies with an unstructured fractional controller are presented in this work. The simulation outcomes demonstrate that the suggested FOID controller provides similar performance and robustness as the unstructured fractional controller. Case studies are conducted for both the typical and perturbed process models. Furthermore, a comparative analysis is provided using various error metrics.
