Performance Analysis of an Induction Motor Using Ansys Maxwell RMxprt for Various Materials (Steel_1010, Ag, Al, Be, Cu, Mg, W, and Zr)

The usage of Electric Vehicles (EVs) is rapidly increasing, and their performance largely depends on the efficiency and effectiveness of electric motors. Induction motors are a suitable choice for enhancing EV performance. The performance of these motors is influenced by their design structure and the materials used. To analyze the motor's characteristics, such as torque, slip, efficiency, input power, power factor, and material weight, Ansys Maxwell RMxprt analytical software can be employed. The design of an induction motor is contingent on various factors, including the outer and inner diameter of the stator and rotor, slot count and shape, voltage, frequency, poles, output power, and materials used. In this study, the analysis and behavior of a 415-volt, 50 Hz frequency induction motor operating at 75 degrees centigrade are presented. The frame material is fixed as steel_1010, while different materials (silver, aluminum, beryllium, copper, magnesium, tungsten, and zirconium) are considered for the winding. The results obtained using Ansys Maxwell RMxprt (AMR) software reveal that the combination of steel_1010 (frame) and silver (Ag) (winding) provides the best efficiency (90.377%) and break-down torque (79.6834 N.m) among all the other material combinations. This information can be useful in optimizing the design of induction motors for Electric Vehicles, ultimately enhancing their overall performance.
