Velocity distribution characteristics near 10kV high-voltage isolation switches in distribution networks under strong wind conditions

The pollution distribution and the wetness degree of contamination on the surface of the umbrella skirt can affect the leakage current and even causing surface flashover. Wind speed can affect the deposition or rebound-escaping process of solid particles on the surface of the insulator umbrella skirt. This paper takes the GW9-12/630 outdoor high-voltage isolation switch as the research object, the windward angle is set as 0°, 30°, 60°, 90°, the inlet velocity is set as 5m/s, 15m/s, 25m/s, and 35m/s, and the velocity distribution characteristics around the insulator was calculated. The simulation results show that when the upwind angle is 0°, the airflow is affected by the upstream insulator, and the velocity distribution near the downstream insulator is different from that around a single insulator. The influence of the upstream insulators on the velocity distribution around the downstream insulators decreases with the increasing windward angle. The simulation results can provide reference for optimizing the umbrella skirt structure of high-voltage isolation switch insulator and explaining the contamination distribution characteristics on the umbrella skirt surface of the serial isolating-switch and installing high-voltage isolation switches in the future.
