Influence of Field Shaper Structure on the Electromagnetic Crimping Performance of High-Voltage Cables

As a crucial component of electromagnetic forming devices, the structural parameters of the field shaper significantly impact the performance of electromagnetic cable crimp joints. This paper presents a simulation analysis of the effects of field shaper structural parameters on the surface magnetic field strength of tube fittings and experimentally analyzes the impact of discharge voltage and working area length on the performance of 70mm
²
high-voltage cable electromagnetic crimping joints. The simulation results indicate that the optimal working area platform length and inclination angle of the field shaper are 10mm and 60°, respectively. Experimental results demonstrate that increasing the discharge voltage reduces the unevenness of external tube deformation and decreases both the resistance value and fluctuation range of the cable joint's contact resistance. At a certain discharge voltage, both 27mm and 18mm working areas can achieve good connections between the tube fittings and the stranded wires, while a 9mm working area results in a smaller contact surface between the cable joint tube fittings and the stranded wires, leading to decreased contact resistance performance.
