OOK and ACO-OFDM hybrid system for IM/DD Visible Light Communication

Thispaper introduces a novel hybrid communication system employing a combination of asymmetric clipped optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (ACO-OFDM) and on-off keying (OOK) modulation schemes. The proposed method of signals reconstruction eliminates the need for additional bias current and avoids excess power consumption. At the transmitter, asymmetric signals reconstruction and secondary clipping ensure the transmission signals remains non-negative. Additionally, a layered transmission system is proposed to improve the system's spectrum utilization rate. These hybrid systems enable simultaneous transmission of OFDM and OOK signals, independent recovery of both signals at the receiver, this flexibility supports various quality of service requirements. Simulation results demonstrate successful recovery of both OOK and OFDM signals at the receiver.
