Joint Optimization of Working and Protection Paths for RSA in Mixed-Grid Optical Networks

The elastic optical network (EON) is regarded as the next generation optical network with finer spectrum granularity and higher spectrum utilization. However, the migration process from wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network to EON cannot be completed immediately. Therefore, the fixed-grid nodes and flex-grid nodes will coexist in the mixed-grid optical network, which challenges the routing and spectrum allocation (RSA). In this work, a joint optimization of working and protection paths routing and spectrum allocation (JOWP-RSA) algorithm is proposed to select the allocation strategy with the lowest spectrum occupancy and the highest spectrum availability. The simulation results demonstrate that the JOWP-RSA algorithm can reduce the proportion of protection resources by about 18.2% and reduce the block ratio by about 50%.
