Terahertz optical modulators using electro-optic polymer waveguides and non-coplanar patch antennas

Radio-over-fiber (RoF) technology, which transmits terahertz wave ($0.1-10 \mathrm{THz}$) signal waveforms using optical fiber, is attracting attention towards the realization of 6 G and future wireless communication systems. We proposed a device fabrication process in which a poled electro-optic (EO) polymer film is transferred onto a substrate, and by using this method we developed antenna-coupled optical modulators that operate at terahertz frequencies using EO polymer waveguides and non-coplanar patch antennas with the aim of realizing devices that directly convert wireless signals to optical signals in the RoF systems.
