Novel Finite Element Complex Domain Beam Propagation Method for Photonic Devices

In this invited talk, we present a novel approach, a Finite Element-based Complex Domain Beam Propagation Method (FE-CD-BPM), for highly-accurate computation of complex propagation constants and field profiles of optical waveguides. The FE-CD-BPM brings together the full-vectorial finite-element formulation of the beam propagation method and the imaginary distance propagation paradigm, enabling precise analysis of various photonic structures. We will further demonstrate the versatility and numerical precision of this technique by computing propagation analysis in two-dimensional waveguide structures, and comparing the results with other numerical formulations.
