Experimental Validation of Ring-Assisted Mach-Zehnder Interferometers for Optical Communications

In this paper, an experimental characterization of SiP ring-assisted Mach-Zehnder interferometers (RAMZIs) is presented. Devices with variations on the ring radius were simulated and validated with experimental characterization. The impact of the RAMZIs in a NRZ 10 Gbit/s system was verified and improved by placing 2 RAMZIs in series which allows tunable bandwidth. The system shown good performance and flexibility allowing some control in the power penalty.
