Optimizing Dysprosium-Doped Fiber Lasers for Direct Yellow Emission: A Comprehensive Numerical Analysis

In recent years, the potential for achieving efficient yellow emission from fiber lasers has significantly increased, thanks to advancements in blue pump laser diodes and fabrication of high-quality Dysprosium-doped fibers. After presenting a comprehensive overview of different glass matrices used for Dy-doped yellow fiber lasers, showing their limits and benefits, this study focuses on the current leading technology, through a comprehensive numerical analysis and optimization of yellow sources based on ZBLAN Dy-doped fibers. Simulation results provide valuable insights into enhancing the efficiency of these lasers through the careful selection of cavity parameters, such as output mirror reflectivity and active fiber length. The findings highlight the current prospects and challenges associated with Dy-doped fiber lasers, while also anticipating their achievable performance as the fabrication technology of glasses, fibers, and other cavity components matures. This research contributes to the ongoing efforts to develop efficient yellow fiber lasers, which hold significant potential for various applications in many fields, such as medicine, spectroscopy, and astronomy.
