Novel laser structures for high-power applications

The paper presents an overview of high-power continuous wave lasers capable of emitting at wavelengths of emerging growing importance for applications ranging from industrial materials processing to medicine and environmental sensing. Examples include blue semiconductor lasers for the processing of highly reflective metals, visible fiber lasers for ophthalmologic surgeries, and mid-infrared fiber lasers for materials processing and spectroscopy.
