Design and analysis of a graphene-based metasurface modulator for 6G wireless communications

In recent years, with the increasing development of 6 G wireless communication, Terahertz waves have attracted significant attention. Their unique properties, such as vast bandwidth and minimal interference, make them ideal for high-speed wireless systems. In this context, graphene is considered a key material: its properties make it perfect for implementing the components needed for future 6 G communication In this paper, we propose the design of a transparent graphene-based modulator working in the range between 1 THz and 5 THz. We investigate several configurations using different pairs of graphene chemical potentials, incarnating the two states of a binary encoding. The optimal configuration has been evaluated by means of a figure of merit properly defined. This device paves the way for the realization of a new class of smart components for 6 G wireless communications.
