A Vector Wind Speed Sensor Based on Cylindrical Cantilever Beam Structure

Real-time and accurate measurement of wind speed is crucial for the safe operation of power transmission networks. However, existing wind speed sensors struggle to accurately measure wind speed and direction in the high electromagnetic interference environment of transmission lines. To address this issue, a vector wind speed sensor based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) technology is designed. Experimental results indicate that with a cylindrical rod diameter of 3mm, length of 200mm, and a sensitivity sphere diameter of 63mm, the sensor achieves a sensitivity of 7.

within the wind speed range of 0–15 m/s and

within the range of 15–30 m/s. ANSYS fluid-structure interaction simulations show that the sensor introduces Kármán vortex street oscillations in the direction perpendicular to the wind speed during measurement. To mitigate this oscillation, we propose modifying the sensitivity sphere to an ellipsoidal shape, and ANSYS simulations confirm the feasibility of this approach. The fiber Bragg grating vector wind speed sensor, based on a cylindrical cantilever beam and composite sensitivity sphere structure, has significant application prospects in the power transmission industry.
