Experimental Study on Operating Frequency of Magneto-Dielectric Material Using SIW-Based Device

This paper deals with the experimental study on operating frequency of magneto-dielectric (MD) material using substrate-integrated-waveguide (SIW)-based device. To conduct the study, an SIW-based device is designed, realized, and measured. The design of SIW-based device is using three layers of Rogers RO4003C substrate material with the thicknesses of first, second, and third layers of 0.4 mm, 0.8 mm, and 0.4 mm, respectively. The investigation of operating frequency of MD material is carried out by inserting Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) material and 48 copper wires into the second layer substrate. Based on characterization results, it is found that the copper wires can enhance the electric field, while YIG material can strengthen the magnetic field in the SIW-based device. Furthermore, according to the experimental results, the YIG material operates in the frequency range of 4.2 GHz to 13.8 GHz. The results also indicate that the insertion of YIG material can produce new dips, new peaks, and frequency shifts in the SIW - based device.
