Dielectric Waveguide as Transmission Line for R 1.8k Microcalorimeter

A dielectric waveguide can exhibit lower insertion loss than a metal waveguide at millimeter wave and sub-millimeter wave frequencies, and thus is an excellent candidate for a transmission line in the development of a new microcalorimeter set-up for frequencies up to 220 GHz. The realized transmission line presented in this paper consists of the dielectric waveguide itself as well as the transitions to the rectangular metal waveguide interface type R 1.8k (WR 5). Simulation and measurement data are shown.
