The Transient Power Oscillation Suppression for Parallel Grid-Forming Converters Using the Superconducting Transmission

Due to the development of renewable energies, the power electronics converter, which interface the renewable energies and power grid, plays a crucial role in modern power systems. To enhance the efficient operation of power grid, the grid-forming converter has been introduced to replicate the behavior of a synchronous generator. Additionally, the utilization of superconducting transmission in contemporary power systems is emerging as a promising goal to reduce the power loss. However, the zero electrical resistance of superconducting transmission can lead to transient power oscillations when multiple grid-forming converters interact. This paper proposes a virtual impedance control scheme in grid-forming converters to mitigate transient power oscillations among multiple converters. The viability of the proposed virtual impedance is confirmed through simulation.
