Design and Implementation of a Fully-Analog Control System for DC Motor Speed Control

In this work we present a complete fully-analog control system for an unknown DC brushed motor measured by an unknown digital incremental rotary encoder. We propose methods for understanding the system, rudimentary identification of the motor model and a theoretical basis for designing such a system. We propose a frequency to voltage converter (FVC) with output filtering. Our system drives the motor at 5 V supply voltage, with a 3200 pulse rotary encoder, to the measured accuracy of 2% of the steady state set axle speed value.
