Urban Building Coverage Areas Calculation and 3D Modeling Based on UAV LiDAR

As urbanization picks up speed, precise comprehension and control of urban area become increasingly important to guarantee sustainable growth. The goal of this study is to present a streamlined process that uses only 3D coordinate data from Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) laser scanning data to calculate Building Coverage Areas (BCA) and create three-dimensional (3D) models. The primary concept of the suggested approach is to build a triangulation network for a number of processed point clouds, after which the BCA and 3D modeling are computed by combining Heron's formula. Experimental results show the simplicity and effectiveness of the proposed method, which achieves an accuracy about 88.6% in the calculation of BCA. 3D modeling also produces promising results. The results show that the proposed method can accurately calculate the BCA and generate a better 3D model of the building. The method can support digital city development and urban resource surveys.
