Integrated Method for Flood Area and Depth Estimation: Combining Sar Satellite Image, GIS Data, and Ground-Level Information

The objective of this study is to address the task of flood disaster monitoring using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite imagery. We have developed a novel framework for flood area estimation which combines topographic gradient information with local distribution-based estimation method. Furthermore, we also developed a new flood depth estimation method that synthesizes point flood depth information with satellite analysis results. Analysis reveals that the proposed method can generate flood information of higher quality than other state-of-the-art methods which often suffer from reduced accuracy in extensive flood areas.
