Spectroscopy Measurement of Mangrove Leaves Affected by Oil and Biotic Stressors

The outcomes presented in this study highlight the efficacy of spectroscopy as a mangrove monitoring tool, providing a non-destructive and cost-effective approach for assessing impacts of oil pollution. The reflectance data in the 400-2400 nm spectral range are measured using an SR-6500A spectroradiometer and the species-specific variations in spectral signatures was linked to symptoms observed in the leaves. Three mangrove species exposed to two of the most important oil spills in Brazilian history and various biotic stressors were investigated. The results herein presented encompass a comprehensive investigation dedicated to the development of indicators, utilizing foliar trait retrieval, to discern oil pollution from other stressors across diverse contexts and field settings.
