Fuzzy Logic, Artificial Intelligence, and Planet Scope Imagery for the Zonification of Wildfire Vulnerability

Forests cover over 30% of the Earth's terrestrial ecosystem, encompassing a total of 4.06 billion hectares worldwide. Forest fires are a major problem around the world, and the provision of information to adopt better strategies and methods is essential to prevent the spatial distribution of such fires. Spatially explicit models predicting fire hazards will be of high value in planning adaptation strategies to changing fire regimes.GIS-based Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis techniques have become increasingly widespread in environmental modeling and natural hazard prediction. In Colombia, the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology, and Environmental Studies – IDEAM has assembled an expert group to define the main variables that generate a significant vulnerability around the occurrence of forest fires.This project raises a methodology based on IDEAM protocol, with a final ponderation generated through fuzzy logic, which consists of bringing the computational decision process closer to human decision-making, making machines more capable of handling complex problems.
