A New Method for Coastline Extracting Considering the Wetness of Ground Objects from Remote Sensing Images

A method for coastline extraction considering the wetness of ground objects from remote sensing images has been proposed. Firstly, a stack of high-quality remote sensing images was constructed in the research time phase, and the wetness components were obtained by Tasselled Cap Transformation (TCT) to form a wetness index stack. Then, the maximum value of the wetness component was synthesized, and the maximum water surface composite image was segmented based on the Otsu algorithm to obtain accurate remote sensing information about the coastline. Finally, the extraction accuracy was improved in the removal of small areas of water. In this study, based on Google Earth Engine and Landsat 8 OLI remote sensing images, Zhoushan Island was selected to carry out verification experiments. The experimental results show that the length error and the surrounding area error are 0.14% and 2.50%, respectively. The mean error and root mean square error of the results obtained by the proposed method are 3.42 m and 6.79 m, respectively.
