Retrieval of Two-Dimensional Current Field Based on Fusion of Multi-Source Remote Sensing Data

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) utilizes Doppler frequency shift to measure the velocity of ocean surface, but due to imaging mechanism limitations, SAR cannot provide complete information on the direction of ocean surface current. In contrast, using time-series optical remote sensing images and Maximum Cross Correlation (MCC) to track image features, two-dimensional surface current information can be obtained. However, this method is subject to significant errors in current velocity estimation.In this paper, a two-dimensional current field retrieval method with multi-source data fusion is proposed. The method utilizes Sentinel-1B synthetic aperture radar to retrieve radial current velocities and sea surface temperature (SST) data from Himawari-8 to retrieve current directions. By fusing the retrieval results from these two types of data, a more accurate retrieval of the two-dimensional current field at the sea surface can be realized.
