Effects of Spatial Position on Mainlobe Interference Suppression Performance of FDA-MIMO Radar

Frequency diverse array multiple-input multiple-output (FDA-MIMO) radar has significant potential for mainlobe interference suppression due to its range-dependent beam. However, the quantitative study of interference suppression performance, output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio, is still incomplete, especially the effect of spatial positions of the target and jammer. This article proposes a metric parameter to denote the performance enhancement of interference suppression for FDA-MIMO radar over the conventional MIMO radar, explaining the performance degradation caused by the azimuth difference between the target and mainlobe jammer. Numerical results confirm the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the effect of spatial position on the performance improvement for FDA-MIMO radar, presenting the boundary conditions of the mainlobe interference suppression for FDA-MIMO radar.
