Electromagnetic Radiation Study on Board Ships

The paper presents the results of electromagnetic measurements of a maritime ship. The data was gathered in the areas outside the ship metal structure (three unshielded areas) and inside the vessel (a shielded area). Additional screens were used to protect the personnel as well as the electro-energetic and communications equipment. The field level on board the ship was measured according to the frequency bands. The values were compared with those of the standards in force, taking into account that the radiation of the emitters represents a risk for the health of the personnel on board. The levels of the electric field and power density in the four areas were presented. Measurements were made with and without shielding during the operation of three communications equipment. Function of ship size and shape of it, the location of the communication equipment and their type, the influence of the electric field level on the crew was analyzed.
