Enhancing Government Hospital Information Security: A Framework Integrating Modified ISO 27001 and HIPAA Standards

The broad adoption of information technologies in hospitals has resulted in substantial enhancements in healthcare delivery, bolstering patient care by facilitating effective data administration and easy accessibility. More precisely, including these technologies while adhering to ISO 27001 and HIPAA laws guarantees a strong structure for safeguarding information security and maintaining patient confidentiality. Nevertheless, despite these progressions, there are significant deficiencies in completely capitalizing on these benchmarks. A significant number of hospital information systems continue to face challenges in achieving integration, resulting in the construction of data silos and the inconsistent implementation of security protocols. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of the installation of hospital information systems that comply with both ISO 27001 and HIPAA standards. Our research has shown significant shortcomings in current systems, including inadequate user training and insufficient incident response procedures. These deficiencies pose a threat to the integrity and security of data. The results indicate that although compliance frameworks are conceptually strong, their real implementation typically falls behind due to organizational and technical difficulties. This study emphasizes the importance of ongoing assessment and adjustment of security policies to address changing threats and regulatory mandates. Our findings indicate that hospitals should allocate resources towards continuous staff education and system audits in order to maintain compliance and safeguard patient information.
