Total Variation Based 2D Image Registration of Post-Mortem Mouse Brain Images

Brain atlas registration has been used to identify, analyze, and compare brain structures across different studies using a common spatial reference. However, brain registration poses multiple challenges due to the different imaging modalities and imaging procedures. In particular, brain registration involving autoradiography (AutoRad) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) images presents additional challenges due to the complex and careful preparation and processing of the brain tissue required prior to the imaging task. This paper proposes a framework to automatically register AutoRad and IHC images with 2D brain atlas images. A total of 141 AutoRad and IHC images of mice subjects were used to evaluate the performance of our method.
