Short-term effects of methyl-ethyl-ketone contamination on cable insulation – a case study

Our paper is based on an incident that occurred at an industrial site. Methyl-ethyl-ketone mixed with warm water and other contaminants was spilled into a cable tunnel and the contamination remained on the cables for six months. To investigate the short-term effects, measurements were made at the industrial site and in the BME High Voltage Laboratory, including the testing of the insulating, material, mechanical and electrical properties of the cable. As a result of the measurements, our conclusion was that there were no significant short-term effects of the contamination on the cable insulation.
