Change in Plant Power Output After Upgrading High-Pressure Steam Turbine in Krško Nuclear Power Plant

Increase in power output after the upgrade of the high-pressure turbine at Krško Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is studied. The test procedure for determination of the plant power output is described along with the main challenges, measurement methodology and special considerations. The procedure is based on the vendor’s procedure and ASME PTC 6-1996 standard for turbine performance tests. A comprehensive study of the secondary system operating parameters is presented. The analysis is performed utilizing a proprietary thermodynamic physical model of the secondary system. The findings suggest a potential overestimation in the new HP turbine’s isentropic efficiency and highlight the importance of ongoing optimization for further enhancement of plant power output.
